Genki Sushi

I've always been a loyal fan of Genki Sushi since years yearssss ago when my Dad still had a car and we would drive to the Changi Airport's outlet for dinner once every few weeks. It closed down suddenly for unknown reasons and now it is back with a new concept (express sushi, literally).

Anyway, I think it was around 3 years back when it reopened and I remembered going there with my family during the opening week. I loved their food and since then I've been going there if I am in the vicinity. Daniel loves it too. But sad to say, when I visited it two days ago I was utterly disappointed. Not sure when did they actually served such low standard of food. Read more to find out...

GENKI SUSHI CHINATOWN POINT
133 New Bridge Road
#02-33 Chinatown Point

Sushi are served in these cute trains. Now they have the Astro Boy version. Super cute.
Check out the Hello Kitty plates.
Not sure if you can see this but when I took them off the train I was shocked. The handroll looked like it has been through a war before it was served to me. And the other thing is that I can still see the salmon skin on my salmon and it looks like it's dirty. Super gross. And it doesn't taste as nice and thick as my last few visits. As if what I had up till now wasn't disappointing...
Daniel ordered two of their chawanmushi because he knew that he would finish one by himself. Think he regretted his choice too. Because it really taste a world of difference compared to last time. Not sure why this is happening, maybe it's because since they opened the Chinatown outlet their standards dropped or what. It's just so disappointing.
At least there's one dish that Daniel love. Fried Chicken Gunkan. -.-
By the way, the salmon maki (on the right, back of the photo) was not too bad.

Not sure if we'll be coming back anytime soon. It's like the cute Hello Kitty plates can't even help redeem Genki Sushi anymore. I'd rather go queue at The Sushi Bar at Far East Plaza than queuing for Genki Sushi now.

Itacho Sushi

Celebrated Daniel's Dad's birthday on Monday. It was my second visit there but the first visit was not exciting as Daniel and I each ordered our own dish with sides of one chawanmushi and one sushi only.

This time we're back with Daniel's family at The Star Vista's outlet. Ordered a variety of dishes that I can't remember the name of all the dishes.

Loving their chawanmushi! Their salmon sashimi was nice too. Yums
Butter and garlic clams.
Dish that had duck in it and it tastes like fried tako yaki. Not bad.
Eel and gyoza. I love!
Squid. Their sauce was nice.
Can't seem to remember what are the names of the dishes as we ordered quite abit. The only thing I can remember is the expensive chicken karaage ($6) for six pcs.
Weird looking sushi that has scallop and avacado with steaks of dried chilli. Not sure how it was made. Tried the chilli and it tasted kinda gross.
The desserts were very disappointing. Definitely not worth the money.

Not sure if I will be back again anytime soon. I still prefer The Sushi Bar (Far East Plaza) or even Genki Sushi (also one of my fav!).

PasarBella @ The Grandstand

Went back to my new found favourite food place with my colleagues on Good Friday. Couldn't have gone there based on my vote. Fortunately, one of my colleague Liz, has also been wanting to try out PasarBella. So here we are. Yay.

PasarBella
200 Turf Club Road

Finally tried Le Patio's Seafood Paella. Been wanting to try it since my previous visit but Daniel and I were too full for more food.
We each ordered dishes to share and this was what was brought back to the table.
Super tender chicken. My first time eating such tender chicken. When I first saw it I was thinking that it's going to be dry on the inside. I was so wrong. And I'm loving this BBQ sauce. It's very sweet yet unique.
Sea Bass Fish & Chips from Sea Salt Carribean Deli. I think the sweet potato fries and taro chips are the best. Crispy on the first bite but the after taste was sweet. Super yummy! I love it.
3 Meat dish from Sea Salt Carribean Deli. Had this the last time and I still love it. Loving their beef and pork!
Pork Knuckle also from Sea Salt Carribean Deli. Crispy skin and the rice is so flavourful. The same rice that I had thesst time. Love love love!
What I came here for. To try the Pomegranate cake that I've been wanting to try! This is so awesome. Even though it's $10 a slice its so good. And it's a huge slice. So worth it and so delicious! Love biting into the pomegranates. We also ordered a Grillage cake. Chocolate cake with caramel sauce? With bits of honey to chew on? I don't know what is this but it's awesome too! I want to try all of their cakes.

Yummy! I can't wait to go back again.

Elements @ Amara Hotel

Two weeks ago, Daniel's family and I came here for dinner to celebrate Aunty Pat's birthday. The food was good but a bit too expensive for me. A place I would recommend if you're celebrating a special occasion.

Elements @ Amara Hotel
165 Tanjong Pagar Road

Forgot what is this called. Not a big fan of it. Think it's omelette with bread.
Love their calamari!
Beef with mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Sausage platter which was yummy too!
Fish & Chips. Fish was tender and I like this kind of skinny fries.
Their pasta was not very good, felt 'Jelat' after a few mouths. But everything else was not bad! Worth a visit.

Ayam Penyet Ria & Dong Po Colonial Cafe

Ayam Penyet Ria
Lucky Plaza
#04-25/26
Singapore 238863

Food was good! Daniel and my first time trying gado-gado and we like it. Mee soto was average. I don't recommend that. But we love the chilli that comes together with the Ayam Penyet. Spicy! Price was ok considering the location is in town. Would recommend this place the next time you're in town and looking for something not so pricey yet nice.

Dong Po Colonial Cafe

Second time here and actually I think their cakes are average. It's like more a more high class Coffeeshop. We decided to come here because Daniel and I were too bored at Bugis. Decided to chill a little here. We bought the apple aloe vera cake, chocolate eclair, butterfly cupcake, vanilla long cake and a teh (tea). Was craving for cakes that day but none of them satisfied me.

Nam Nam Noodle Bar

Third visit to Nam Nam Noodle Bar today and I got to say I still love it. It was my first visit to the Suntec City's outlet and I very much prefer this outlet to the other two outlets at Raffles Place and Wheelock Place. Not like I've visited the Wheelock Place's outlet. But I remembered walking past it before and boy does it look cramp. I think the one at Raffles City is worse. The Suntec City one was so much more spacious and comfortable.

Went there with Grandma, Mom, Aunts and Cousins

Their pho was awesome. I was never a fan of Vietnamese food. Even when I was in Vietnam and had authentic Pho, I never had cravings for them. But after my first visit at Nam Nam, I had craving for it and went back with Daniel the next day.

I'm sure there are better Pho out there. But for now, I will make do with this. Plus, Suntec City and Raffles City are near to where I live.

Also an update, I won't be heading to PasarBella tomorrow with my colleagues because my dear Daniel fell sick. If he gets well soon, we'll go there on Monday with our friends. Get well soon my dear. Praying for your healing.

PasarBella @ The Grandstand

Visited Yolanda at Cicely Kitchen at PasarBella @ The Grandstand yesterday. I've got to admit its inconvenient but it's so worth the hassle. For those who don't know of this place. It's like Singapore's version of the Farmer's Market.

That's Yoyo working at the background. Didn't know that she could cook so well and cook everything by herself after being under the lady boss's guidance for a while.

She made us Wild Mushroom + Truffle Cream Pasta, which was bomb diggity. Not a fan of cream based pastas but this was awesome.

We also tried their Mac & Cheese, Shepard's Pie and their tomato soup. Daniel loved the soup it was so flavourful and it has a thicker consistency in comparison to the average tomato soups.

We also tried Sea Salt Carribean Deli as recommended by Yoyo. It's located right opposite Cicely Kitchen. We chose the 3 meat + 1 side (150gms) also recommended by Yoyo. We gotta say we love it. Daniel and I both love the Beef & Pork meat. The chicken was average. The sides were awesome. I loved the potato it tastes different from your normal typical potato sides. Daniel thinks the rice tasted more like Indian cuisine but we don't hate it. It tasted great too. Even though the rice was flavoured I feel that it isn't too strong and it compliments the meat very well as the meat had a much stronger taste. Great dish overall. Satisfying dish for S$12.  She also made us two drinks - Mixed berries and Lychee. I liked both drinks, they are both light but not as strong as I thought it would be.

Yoyo gave us crepe from Le Patio too but I forgot to take a photo of it. Oops.

I will be heading back to PasarBella this Thursday with my colleagues. I'm sure they'll love this place as much as I do!

Note to self: I need to get my hands on that pomegranate cake.
