The Marriage Proposal

It's been almost a week since Daniel proposed and I thought I should spend some of my Saturday evening to blog about last Sunday, 26 April 2015.

Backtrack to the Tuesday before, Liz (my colleague) told me that she wanted to go to the Pasar Malam near where we worked. So the four of us went (including Skye and Joel) I did not think anything much about it and never suspected anything. Maybe because Liz really genuinely wanted to eat the food there and she's been talking about it since they started building the pasar malam tents. Even without the proposal she would have totally dragged us there. Coincidentally, Daniel (who stole Joel's number from my phone. haha) texted Joel a few days before that to hold me back longer so I would reach home late so he could go to my house and talk to my parents. This just came together nicely. That's why I did not realise anything was fishy.

Also prior to Sunday, I asked Daniel what does he have on after church service and he told me he's doing sound for our church's Annual General Meeting and would end around 5pm. I believed him because he's a church staff and he always had to help out with sound/audio matters.

So, my ex-colleagues, current colleagues and I have been trying to organise a meet up because we haven't met up as a group in a long time and they suggested Sunday. I thought I'l go meet them and them meet Daniel afterwards after he's done with the meeting. So after the usual Sunday church service, I met up with them at TCC, Marina Bay Sands. We were casually talking and then some guy came up to me and said "Are you Sihui?". I replied yes and he put this iPad with very familiar casing on my table and said, "I was told to ask you to watch this.". I knew it at that moment, it's here. I was shocked because I never expect Daniel to do a public proposal. He never liked attention. There and then, I was still shocked. Even after the proposal, my colleague Skye even told me that I am the most calm 女主角. Actually, I wasn't the least bit calm, my heart was pounding so hard and I couldn't breathe, I had to keep taking deep breaths. Truth be told, I wasn't really watching the video because I was still trying to sink in this fact that today is the day and was thinking how come Daniel doesn't have to go for the Annual General Meeting. Haha. Then I realised it was all a plan. Other than all these thoughts, I also kept looking everywhere around me because I really wanted to find Daniel and to also see if my parents were here. There I found them, they were standing at the railing on the second floor. I was so happy there were there to witness this. But it was really a mix of emotions at that point of time.

The next thing I knew, the video was over and Daniel came up to me with flowers and the ring. I again, wasn't really listening, what I remembered hearing was "lifetime", "spend the rest of my life with you" and "why am I crying?". Hahaha. I laughed at that part because I was the one who was supposed to be crying but he was the one who was tearing. Actually, I did tear at the start of the iPad video. Anyway, I said "Yes" and then this man here was struggling removing the ribbon from the box. It was quite a funny yet cute sight. Haha. He after that explained that because of the tears in his eyes he could not see the ribbon properly and that he had to put the ribbon so close to his face so he can remove it. Hahaha.

Enough words.
Now, time for pictures!

My beloved younger brother and I. Missing my older brother as I am typing this. :')

Thank you colleagues and ex-colleagues turned good friends!
Special thanks for Joel for planning this with Daniel. You planned well. Haha

Thank you guys for helping with this proposal. :)

Thank you Goddaughter Zoe for gracing your Godparents proposal event. We love you.

Thank you Jayme and Jiahao for helping! Thank you for loving us. :) And extra special thanks to Jiahao for working so hard for helping Daniel take the photos on your off day and also for editing such a beautiful video. Thank you!

My dear family. Missing my elder brother. I've another year or so with them before I move out. Gonna miss them, my parents has the lamest jokes and I'll miss all of that especially my mum's cooking which is getting better and better. :)

Thank you to my future in laws for accepting me and for always thinking about me. Blessed to have each and every single one of you. :)

After the proposal, both of our families went to have a meal together at Food for Thought at the National Museum. I love it when we our families always come together and able to talk to each other like friends. It just warms my heart just thinking about that scene.

After our early dinner, Daniel and I went down to Tiffany & Co to get the ring resized. It'll be done in 4-6 weeks, kinda wish it would be faster. Hahaha.

Hi love. Thanks for planning this proposal since the start of the year and even getting the ring so early! Can't believe that you did so much just for this proposal. You sacrificed your favourite hobby (a.k.a. Sleep) and even got out of your comfort zone and took some crazy photos in public even though the cleaner aunties were laughing at you. I am more impressed that you were the one who decided to do a public proposal. Where did you get the courage from?! It's a big decision to marry and it's even a bigger decision to want to marry me. Thank you for accepting me and I'm looking forward to spend the rest of my life with you.

Oh. The reason why it was at TCC was because it was the first time Daniel ever heard about me from his then Cell Group Leader, Yuerong and it was then that she told Daniel that he should get to know me better.

Can't wait for the big day to come. Wedding preparation is not easy, am trying to make things as simple as possible and not trying to be a bridezilla because after all a wedding is to celebrate the marriage and the union of the two coming together.

Currently trying to find the venues and I'll try to blog my wedding process as much as I can.

Family Gathering

Sorry for the lack of updates. Today I finally have the time to sit down and do something else other than preparing for lessons. My holiday will end on 25th June and hopefully I can update more during the free time I have now.

During Mother's Day last month, my parents and grandma attended Daniel's parents' church for service. I was really happy that they came down. Every time my parents agree to my invitation to church I always imagine that my parents would respond to the altar call or would at least come to church more often.

When I was in primary school, my family and I used to attend church together. But as time passes, my siblings and I grow older, we don't attend church at all. We just did not see the need to. We believed in God but somehow, we just stopped going to church. It wasn't that we were not believers any more, it's just that we did not have time for God. In short, we did not make time for Him.

My dad was born into a Buddhist family and when he married my mom, he attended church because my mom, aunts and grandma attended. Same thing for my mom, she attended church because her sisters were all attending. And we would hang out and have lunch together as a family after service. I always knew that a part of us believed in God.

Many years passed and I graduated from poly and proceeded to teach in my current workplace. When I started this job, my friend invited me to CHC. So I attended CHC's anniversary celebration in 2011 but did not attend any more after that. But what made me come back to CHC was because of my student. I just got into teaching and I was struggling. I was thrown into a class because the class teachers were either on course or had resigned. I had no clue what I was doing and what I am supposed to do. In the end, I had to observe what other teachers were doing and imitate their teaching methods. The boys I had had behaviours and was difficult to manage. But I still managed to get through it day by day. During one unsuspecting day, when I was teaching my boys. One of them came up to me and started singing "Jesus loves me. This I know. For the Bible tells me so." I was shocked because it was so unexpected and I suddenly felt God's love surrounding me. A feeling that I have not felt in a long long time. So when my friend invited me back to CHC again, I did not decline and has been there since.

Not sure how my story of my salvation came out on this post but... oh well.

Anyway, since I came into CHC I've been praying for my parents' to come back to church. Any church. So, like I said I was really happy that my parents came for this Mother's Day service. I was exceptionally happy for my Dad. I don't know when this started but he has been reading the bible faithfully every day at 9.30pm. It just started one day and it has been like that for quite some time. This really touched me and I feel really bad because there are times when I am too tired to read or I just did not feel like reading. My parents took the first step to go to church again. Even if it was because Daniel's parents were the ones who invited them and they came out of politeness. I was still excited that they came. I will continue to pray for my parents and if you don't mind you can add this into your prayer list too. Thanks in advance.

So here are 2 photos that I took that day.
Uncle Desmond and Aunty Pat.
Dad, Mom and Grandma.
We also took a photo with both families in it but I haven't received it yet.

On that day, my grandma also extended an invite to Daniel's family to come over her house for a kebaya fitting as my grandma kept many beautiful kebayas left behind by my great-grandmother who used to have a shop selling kebayas.

So it happened two Sundays ago on 1st June.
Aunty Pat and Pamela.

I tried putting it on but I could not stand the heat in my grandma's room and proceeded to take selfies with Daniel in the living room.

With my late Grandpa at the back.

Poor boy who was so tired from work and assignments.

Was trying to imitate Daniel's no teeth smile. How did I fare?

We had dinner at Fatt Choy Mui (Fa Ca Mei). The food was awesome!

It's located right behind Old Airport Road Food Centre, past the open air car park.
That's my aunt on the right.

This is a very long post but it was worth the time documenting this down. I feel so blessed.

2 years

Practicum is finally over and I can finally do the things I want to do without being stressed over practicum. Since now I have more time to think (other than work), I was thinking about how time flew by these 2 years (almost). I feel so blessed every single day because I have someone who loves me so much despite all my flaws. God must really love me a lot to put someone like you in my life. As I am typing this, you are at work, working so hard.

I've never really said this to you before, but what I like about you is that you're so self-motivated, hardworking and you always stand up for your friends. Even though you are always playful and "bullying" your friends, I know that when they need help, you help them with all your heart.

Your family, your colleagues and I know that you don't actually need to take the qualification that you're currently taking because they know that you know all the tools of the trade. But you still do it because you want to learn everything about audio and also because the qualification will also bring us a better quality of life in the future. Sometimes seeing you being so passionate about audio/sound really makes me feel like you're really meant for this. I mean... indeed, you are meant for this. No doubt. Everyone knows this. I always say I am so proud of you. I really am.

You have such a strong character but there's a sweet part of you that not many people see. Only those who know you long enough or those who are close to you. I love how when we're together you will let me do what I like, always accompanying me and abiding to my absurd requests and never once complain about it.

In these two not-long-nor-short years, we've been through quite a bit. I know, the journey ahead of us will be going to be as tough, if not more tough. Yes, it will be tiring for you because you're studying and working at the same time. But you know and I know that we can get through another 2 years because we've already been through these 2 years.

I love you.

Elements @ Amara Hotel

Two weeks ago, Daniel's family and I came here for dinner to celebrate Aunty Pat's birthday. The food was good but a bit too expensive for me. A place I would recommend if you're celebrating a special occasion.

Elements @ Amara Hotel
165 Tanjong Pagar Road

Forgot what is this called. Not a big fan of it. Think it's omelette with bread.
Love their calamari!
Beef with mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Sausage platter which was yummy too!
Fish & Chips. Fish was tender and I like this kind of skinny fries.
Their pasta was not very good, felt 'Jelat' after a few mouths. But everything else was not bad! Worth a visit.

Souvenirs

Thank you Pamela Jie for this. I really adore the colour. Thanks Uncle and Aunty for the food/thought too while they were in Europe.

Dad's 54th: Part 2

Photos from my camera. Taken last Monday on March 10.

Older brother not in picture. We still think about you even though you're in Italy now.

And happy birthday Dad. Even though we don't talk much and both of us are not very expressive towards each other. I want to say I love you.

Dad's 54th

Took some family photos with my camera and I've yet to upload it. So here's a picture of my Dad's Pink Champagne cake from my phone.

Celebrated Dad's birthday on Monday. My parents are getting older and older. The more time passes by, the more guilty I feel because I know that I don't spend enough time with them. I know one day I'm going to regret so I better make effort to spend more quality time with my parents. Plus if I'm going to move out in 2 years I better treasure the time we have now. In the future I might only see them once every week or every fortnightly. Sigh. Sometimes I wish that I don't have to grow up.

By the way, I'm blogging at this hour because I can't seem to sleep. Bad habit of using my phone in the dark while lying on the bed. Guess I got to get going now. Service tomorrow at 10am and I still have to buy cake for Bing Xun's birthday.

One of a kind

As usual, every Friday we have cell group meeting at 8pm. Daniel who was working at Suntec ended work later than usual, came down to my cell group leader's house at 9 plus, when he could have just went home straight. By the time he reached, we were more than halfway through cell group meeting. After cell group meeting at 10 plus, then he told me he haven't had his dinner yet and so we went to look for KFC (because he wanted to try the bucket rice). We googled the nearest outlet, walked there and there it was...closed. He decided to send me home first because by the time he reach my MRT station, he would have to catch the last few trains back. So now while I'm typing this at 1am, he has just started eating his dinner...or should I call it supper?

I feel sooooo bad but yet so touched at the same time.

Will post more interesting stuffs when I have the time, which will be in May when my teaching practicum is over.
