Unexplainable Connection

It's officially my 2nd day back at work today and it's really amazing how things were. Today, I really connected with student X. He was playing alone with an empty box and four small balls. He placed each of the balls at the corner of the box, pretending that it's a car. Joelynn, my contract teacher told me of this before and since then I wanted to see how does X do it in real life.

I had the chance to witness it today and after observing I decided to jump into the box because I know normal play is not going to work with him (Actually normal play is not going to work for any of my students in the school). Obviously, he screamed and try to pull me out. He succeeded because I was afraid he was going to cry and throw a tantrum. But eventually, I went back in the box, yes, as expected, he screamed and pulled but I stayed put in the box. So I diverted his attention by pretending that I was driving the 'car' and made lots of sound effects. "Vroooooom, BOOM!" (Whatever sounds I could think of) I think that was the turning point that made him interact with me. He was running and jumping around with excitement. I remembered Joelynn told me about the dog that he will put in his 'car'. So I called out to him (while I was still in the box), "X! Where is the dog?" He was confused. I pointed at the soft toy dog. He took it and gave it to me, I placed it behind me, like my passenger (I was the driver). He was ok with me being in 'play'. Next, I went to ask for a bear but he gave me another dog and he placed it behind me. He was smiling and laughing. Now as I am typing this, I was and still am amazed by whatever that has happened.

So this is how it is like to be in someone else's world.
It's amazing.

I really am grateful for this experience and I thank God for this.
